The 2020 Moto2 World Champion, Enea Bastianini looks set to mount a worthy challenge against the top contenders at the Spanish GP in Jerez this year. So far, the rookie has done quite well on his debut in the MotoGP, having come in 10th place in Qatar and 11th at the Doha GP.

He also placed a respectable season-best of 9th place in Portimao, despite having started from 16th position on the grid. He finished just one position away from eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez and right ahead of Takaaki Nakagami.

Still, a good result although not quite the five-position gain he assured after Doha following his promised haircut. Hair getting in his eyes was said to be part of the reason he failed to secure a Top 10 position in that race. Although, he did also claim some technical troubles and side effects of the vaccine as contributors.Bastianini wearing Alpinestars Gloves

The rookie Ducati rider is now determined to make his mark at Andalucia. He confirmed being the fastest on the grid in the final lap at Portimao, achieving his best result of the season. Bastianini says he was eager to review data to ensure being as fast from the beginning in future. He is hoping to land a top position in his next race. Having severally competed on this circuit in his Moto3 and Moto2 days, the Jerez track will hold no surprises for the 23-year-old.

Bastianini also currently stands at the top of the Rookie standings thus far into the year. Just a point ahead of the now injured Jorge Martin. However, despite this success, he has claimed having had some problems with his bike resulting in a poor start and that he would need to use a different strategy. He also confirmed using the first part of the race as a test and opportunity to observe other experienced riders like Nakagami and Valentino.
