The 2021 French Moto Grand Prix saw Ducati motorcycles dominate the podium. Ducati Lenovo Team’s Jack Miller secured first place and while Pramac Racing’s Johann Zarco came in second. It was a challenging flag-to-flag race, but despite the turbulent weather conditions, did give this season’s leaders a chance to shine.
This is the second top position win for Miller this season after having won at Jerez just at the start of the month. For Zarco, the Bugatti circuit will be his third second-place win of the season. Thus far, their wins have given Zarco third place in overall riders standing, just four points ahead of fourth-ranked Miller.
Rounding off the podium in third place was Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s, Fabio Quartararo. This season has been a great showing for the Frenchman who is currently at the top of the overall season standings with 80 points. However, he is just one point ahead of Francesco Bagnaia of the Ducati Lenovo Team. Bagnaia impressed with a fourth-place finish at Le Mans after starting from 16th. It also marks just the second time this season that Bagnaia has missed out on a podium finish.
All attention now switches to the Italian MotoGP race in Mugello at the end of May. Ducati bikes have won first place at Mugello during the last three races. The Italian constructor will certainly be hoping to continue its winning streak on home ground, although Yamaha is not likely to make things easy. Before switching over to Ducati, Jorge Lorenzo won five other races for Yamaha on the Mugello Circuit. They will also be looking to reclaim their title and with El Diablo in the driver’s seat and grasping on to the overall top position, this ambition may not be too far-fetched. Danilo Petrucci is another racer to keep an eye on. Riding for the Tech3 KTM team, he finished fifth at Le Mans but did come in first at the last Italian MotoGP race in 2019.
