The DAAL DXL-5 is a noise control system that will soon be widely available for riders looking to enjoy less distraction and damage from wind noise while riding. Riders will often seek to reduce the noise level that comes from ambient sources and wind noise by wearing earplugs.

However, earplugs do more to cancel than reducing noise, which can be dangerous when riding on the road. After all, there is a reason even cars have horns to warn others. You still need to be able to hear surrounding sounds to some reasonable level. Those that use earmuffs and head cancelling headphones also find it a struggle to try and squeeze them on inside an already fitting motorcycle helmet.

This is where the DAAL DXL-5 comes in. Not only will it be integrated into the interior of the helmet, unlike generic active noise-cancelling earphones that playback reversed sound waves while trying to eliminate harmful noise, the new system works by using DAAL’s proprietary technology, DAAL ANC to reduce wind noise in the helmet without eliminating normal traffic noises.

The system provides a much more comfortable and reduced sound level that will be tailored to different riders thanks to its self-learning ability. Its design features an over the ear headset for maximum comfort and performance, and an operating time of up to eight hours. It will also be able to connect with your smartphone through Bluetooth, and other helmet intercoms.

The DAAL DXL-5 system is currently only available for Nolan helmet models equipped with their N-Com B 902 X Bluetooth helmet communications unit but is expected to be more widely available for other motorcycle helmet brands from next year. This is partly because the system must be separately designed for each helmet and cannot simply be retrofitted, and due to a worldwide components shortage that has stymied production. We are waiting to see if this will take off.
