The Indian motorcycle brand has had an illustrious history. As the first to produce American made motorcycles, they set the bar pretty high when it came to innovation and performance. Since their pre-war days, the company has seen several highs and lows that finally culminated in its acquisition by Polaris industries in 2011. This infusion has seen the brand make a resounding comeback, with the FTR Series among their flagship lines.
Built on the FTR1200 that was released in 2017, this series is inspired by the brands’ roots in flat track racing. The bikes in this range conform to this style of riding that makes use of rear and front suspension. Their designs also feature rear braking systems that make for a different cornering technique. However, the FTR1200 was built more for street riding than the dirt racing of the FTR750.
With a wide and almost flat design of the specially designed Dunlop rear tyres, riders get to enjoy excellent grip, balances and stability, even when coming to a stop. This model offers excellent handling, even at higher speeds, often comparable to other high-performance bikes. The dynamic chassis is coupled with generous suspension and good clearance. The upcoming 2022 models from this range are expected to feature new upgrades that will improve on this FTR1200.
FTR
This base model is the lowest priced of the range that will feature analogue gauges, fully adjustable suspension, and ABS. It will also come with more convenient 120/70-17 front and 180/55-17 rear sized tyres. This is an upgrade on the original FTR that came with 120/70-19 front and 150/70-18 rear sized tyres that provided more awkward handling. These original specifications will be retained only by the FTR Rally model.
FTR Rally
Though it will feature the older tyre profile, this model does come with raised ProTaper handlebars that make for a comfy riding position. It offers an impressive 120hp coming from a 1203CC V-twin engine. It also offers a pleasing aesthetic thanks to a leather aviator seat and low wind deflector. This model will come with Pirelli Rally STR tyres with new front and rear suspensions and radially mounted brakes.
FTR S
This model comes with a touchscreen display for gauges with USB or Bluetooth connectivity to smartphones. Its safety features are also an upgrade on the FTR, with stability, traction, and wheelie control. It also offers rear lift mitigation and cornering ABS.
FTR R Carbon
This is the most premium option in the FTR series that comes with all the features of the FTR S. Also, it offers carbon fibre tank covers, a premium seat cover, with a more streamlined enclosure for the front fender and headlight. It also comes with fully adjustable Ohlins forks and piggyback shocks with blacked-out Akrapovic exhaust and fender carbon fibre. Its 120Nm of torque and 123hp delivers plenty of power when you need it.
All the models will also feature rear cylinder deactivation and cruise control with enhanced throttle response. For those with the new tyre profiles, rides can expect a more comfortable and lowered seat height by about 35mm. Whichever riding style you prefer Motocentral has you covered.
