Cardo has introduced two new communication systems designed specifically for Shoei’s latest generation helmets, offering a far more integrated alternative to traditional external units.
The new Cardo Packtalk-S and Cardo 4X-S have been developed to fit seamlessly into Shoei’s Gen 3 models, including the GT-Air 3, Neotec 3, and J-Cruise 3.
A cleaner, more integrated setup
One of the biggest complaints with standard Bluetooth comms units is the external module mounted to the side of the helmet.
While functional, they can add bulk, affect aerodynamics, and make storage in panniers more awkward. These new Cardo systems are designed to sit flush within the helmet shell, removing the need for an external unit and creating a much cleaner overall profile.
For riders already using Shoei’s latest helmets, this is likely to be one of the biggest advantages.
Packtalk-S vs 4X-S - what’s the difference?
Both systems share the same integrated design and 40mm JBL speakers, but differ in how they handle communication.
Cardo Packtalk-S
- Uses Cardo’s second-generation Dynamic Mesh Communication system
- Claimed range of up to 1.6km between riders
- Up to 13 hours of talk time
- Designed for larger group riding and more stable connections
Cardo 4X-S
- Uses Bluetooth-based intercom communication
- Supports up to four riders
- Includes the same 40mm JBL speakers
- A more straightforward option for smaller group setups
In short, the Packtalk-S is aimed at riders who regularly ride in larger groups, while the 4X-S is a simpler, more accessible option for smaller setups.

Designed specifically for Shoei Gen 3
What sets these units apart is how well they integrate with Shoei’s current helmet range.
They are built to fit directly into:
- Shoei GT-Air 3
- Shoei Neotec 3
- Shoei J-Cruise 3
This not only improves the overall look, but also keeps everything compact and easier to live with day-to-day, especially when storing the helmet or travelling.
Moto Central perspective
Integrated comms systems are something more riders are starting to look for, particularly as helmets become more refined.
External units still do the job, but there is no getting around the fact they add bulk and can feel like an afterthought. This approach from Cardo is much closer to what riders actually want - something that feels like part of the helmet, not something bolted onto it.
For anyone already running a Shoei Gen 3 helmet, this is likely to be one of the cleanest comms solutions currently available.
