Our History – From Marine to Motorcycles

Moto Central’s roots trace back to 1972, when George Bell Marine was established as a supplier of boats, jet skis, and marine equipment. For years, the company thrived in the marine industry, but as the motorcycle market grew, an opportunity emerged to transition into a new and exciting sector.

The shift began with selling Vespa scooters and Cromwell helmets, soon expanding into brands like Momo, Nexx, Davida, and Vemar. The addition of Jamie Woods, a passionate motorcycle enthusiast, in the early 2000s accelerated the transition.

“Almost as soon as Jamie started and new brands were being added weekly, it was obvious that we would have a better future in the motorcycle and scooter market than we were having in the marine business.”

By 2007, the company launched two online stores:

  • OpenFaceHelmets.co.uk
  • HelmetSuperstore.co.uk

In 2009, the company fully rebranded as Moto Central, marking a complete departure from marine equipment and a full commitment to motorcycles.

The Moto Central Showroom Experience

In 2011, Moto Central moved to a larger space in Wolvey, Leicestershire. In 2018, we took another huge step forward with a full showroom redesign, introducing:

  • Dedicated areas for Sports, Touring, Adventure, and Urban riders.
  • A separate and fully stocked ladies’ showroom, one of the only ones of its kind in the UK.
