Piaggio’s three-wheeled scooters have been a big hit since their introduction to the market in 2007. The stylish tilting scooters have proven handy in tackling urban mobility and are now set to offer even better eco-friendly benefits through the release of its new range. The new models comply with Euro 5 emissions rules that call for lower carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, and nitrogen oxide output.
2021 will see the arrival of the 400 HPE Sport that is expected to take the place of the 350 that is ending production. The standard version of the 400 will not be available in the UK. The 400 HPE Sport is powered by a 399cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine. It produces 16% more horsepower of 34.9bhp at 7,000 rpm and an increased torque of 27.8 lb-ft at 5,500 rpm.
This new model is also designed to ensure lower engine noise, vibration and heat thanks to a modified intake and valve timing. The lighter piston and elongated con rod help to deliver lower inertia.
It also comes with a wider and more comfortable seat with extra storage space underneath. This can be accessed manually or using the Piaggio MIA app. The app also allows for Bluetooth pairing so you can answer calls while riding and access other phone features. The digital dash display provides an analogue speedometer and tachometer, alongside other data. Choose from one of our motorcycle helmet brands to go with your new ride.
ASR Traction control is another benefit that will be applied across the new range, with the 400 now also featuring a front tilting suspension that will lock upright when the scooter comes to a standstill. This enhancement means that when you have to stop for traffic lights, you no longer need to put your foot down. The scooter gets back to moving with a little pressure to the throttle or press of a button. The Sport variation will be available in four colour options.
